How to make money traveling around the world

How to make money traveling around the world

Turning one of our greatest passions into a way of earning a living is possible, but it requires sacrifice. Do you dare to take the step?

How to make money traveling around the world? Easy, just find a job as an airline pilot. Technically it seems like an appropriate solution, but that's not what this is all about. This is about wanderlust lovers, those tireless travelers eager for new adventures who roam the world with a backpack and a pair of boots. An enviable lifestyle only within reach of those with a booming bank account. Unless you're willing to work while abroad. Doing what? Here are some ideas.

Teaching English

English is the most international language, so virtually everywhere in the world there are people willing to learn it – and pay for it. Whether it's your native language or your level is good, it won't be difficult for you to find a job. Requirements vary widely between countries, but Asia is a good place to start – especially China, Thailand and Vietnam – as they don't usually require previous experience, just the TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreing Language) certification. It can be achieved with a few hours course that can be done online. Do you see yourself as a teacher?

Travel blogger

This seems like the ideal choice, doesn't it? Simply being paid to travel. It's actually a lot more complicated. Building a personal blog from scratch with enough visibility for brands to notice you isn't something you get overnight, and it requires writing skills, photography, video, social networking... Creating engaging content can take hours and hours of work. But it's possible to do it with passion and effort. Another good way to get started in that world is to write for already consolidated blogs. The profits are smaller but help build a good audience.

Working at a hostel

Hostels are good places to stay when you jump from country to country, but also as a source of income. Being an intense traveller is an advantage for working in these places, as guests usually are globetrotters too and it’s easy to establish a special connection with them. There are several tasks that can be performed that do not require extensive experience, such as working at the reception, in the bar or organizing activities. Many hostels also offer room and board as part of the payment, killing two birds with one stone. And it's a great way to make new friends from all over the world who can help you at your next destination.

Be a tour guide

If you plan to stay in one place for a long time – long enough to know it as if it were your own home – think about being a tour guide. Not only do you need to know the historical context, for which you need to study, but also all those secrets that cities hide and that make them so special. To be extroverted is a plus, but great travelers tend to be so. Today's tourists often look for guides who speak their own language wherever they go, so you don't always have to know the local language perfectly to do this work.

Online jobs

If you don't need more than a computer to do your job, why do it always from the same place? The ability to work remotely has created a generation of digital nomads who turn any place into their office. Many of them are freelancers who organize time to suit them, but more and more large companies are allowing a certain sector of their workers to join this stream. The following list includes some of the most common occupations among these nomads:

  • Web developer
  • Graphic designer
  • Virtual assistant
  • Copywriter
  • Audio/video producer
  • Social media marketer
  • Technical support

No that you know how to make money traveling around the world, will you do it? Whatever you choose, do not forget to bring a travel pillow.
