As a team, we always look to contribute to the wellbeing of our local and global community. Naturally, this leads us to give back to the Earth some of the resources it has given us. This is how we stay sustainable.

What does it mean to be Carbon Neutral?

Carbon offsets are not the solution to climate change, but they are a necessary tool to control carbon emissions. As a global company, it is our responsibility to take action to compensate for what we cannot eliminate, and we believe this is a modest but appropriate start. Only if we all get involved will we be able to stop the climate crisis.

Offsetting Carbon emissions with Reforestation

There are several ways to offset our carbon footprint.
We are a proud supporter of the Jari Pará REDD+ Avoided Unplanned Deforestation project in an area of 500,000 hectares of land in the Amazon rainforest in Brazil — a Verified Carbon Standard project certified by Pachama. This method features an interesting approach, as old trees are much more efficient in generating O2 than newly planted trees.

Amazon forests are some of the world’s most biodiverse habitats, home to 10% of the world’s known species and 40,000 different plants. Offsetting carbon there, we help to preserve that ecosystem — 17% of which we have sadly already lost due to illegal timber poaching.

We also partner with Ecologi, an organization focused on removing CO2 from the atmosphere by planting trees and growing forests in many places around the world. This supports local communities that plant and maintain these forests. So, every time you make an Ostrichpillow purchase, we make sure a tree is planted.

The journey to your home

According to Forbes, 24% of the shipping space from Asia is wasted. We have worked to optimize how we assemble our pallets to optimize space and avoid any unnecessary filling as a way of improving our carbon footprint.
By avoiding wasted space on our shipments, we optimize the maximum quantity on board. If we are not going to fill a container, we are happy to share it.

Shorter distance, less impact

We think locally and act globally.
To reduce our carbon impact from shipping, we maximize and prioritize how we transport our products. All shipments are sent from factories to regional warehouses first by ocean freight and then by train instead of truck to lower the carbon footprint.

We appreciate how our supply chain partners embrace initiatives to reduce their environmental impact: using solar panels or automatizing their facilities with smart lighting and using recycled cardboard boxes to fulfill orders, among others.
